MATHEMATICS COURSE DESCRIPTION

In sixth grade Mathematics, students will be introduced to the Connected Mathematics Three (CMP3) Program. CMP3 helps students develop understanding of important mathematical concepts, skills procedures, and ways of thinking and reasoning, in number, geometry, measurement, algebra, probability and statistics. All students will be able to reason and communicate proficiently in mathematics as outlined in Common Core Learning Standards. They will have knowledge of and skill in the use of vocabulary, forms of representation materials, tools, techniques, and intellectual methods of the discipline of mathematics, including the ability to define and solve problems with reason, insight, inventiveness and proficiency. Before the start of each unit parent letters will be provided to keep parents informed about the mathematics in each unit. Each letter provides an overview and some specific mathematical help.
